What's in a name? RCC announces new site name
Monday, April 10, 2017
The Richardson Center Corporation, nonprofit custodian of the 145-year-old National Historic Landmark, announced today that the site will now be known as the Richardson Olmsted Campus (or, “The Richardson” for short). Formerly, the site was variously referred to as the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane, the Buffalo State Hospital, and the Richardson Olmsted Complex.
The name change reflects the site’s community-focused history and reuse plans. The new name encompasses all activities on-site, including the redeveloped central buildings, the still-untouched historical buildings, and the site’s South Lawn greenspace.
