The “missing” copper connector roof

Look up the next time you’re visiting the Richardson Olmsted Campus. If you do, you just might notice a “missing” piece of the site: the copper roof on one of the connectors.
It may look like architect H.H. Richardson forgot something, but this roof isn’t actually missing – there was never a roof over the fourth floor of the east connector. And, when originally built, there wasn’t a domed copper roof on the west either. So where did the copper come from?
